Collaborations: interdisplinary in practice

Five 2 ten - Ellery cover art

Group formation:

The Audio members of this collaboration were Lincoln List, Callum Watt and Vivienne Devlin. We formed this group at the beginning of september to collaborate on an electronic music piece. When the song was completed and the artist and team were happy with the out come we approached an animation artist to come up with some cover art for the project.

Pitch:

A theme that stood out to all of us during the process was part of the hook where it says "I could be a pilot, seeped through the mud" and jokingly this is the pitch we gave to animation Artist Matt Vezos along with an audio clip of the song. He rolled with it an came up with some of the working concepts for us and along the way sent to the group varied stages of the mock up to ensure we were happy with his ideas and interpretations of our outline.

Project planning:

We met up with Matt for two face to face meetings and then the rest of the correspondence was done online. We kept regular contact with Matt to ensure we were all staying on the same page and that we were all going to be happy with the final result.

Project outlook;

First concept mock up

Then we started talking texturalisation

Then we talked about realism

Then we decided why not make the sky look more natural

Then lastly the details of the plane ready to insert some text

Working on this project with an Animation student was definitely a unique experience, not only limiting yourself to audible ideas but adding to them with visual interpretations of them.

Not knowing anything about art and knowing how little time we thought we had for the project I was happy with just the concept. However I am glad we pushed through and ended up with a much better outcome.
